Dad's On Call=Poop in Tub
The above equation is part of a scientific parenting equation based in equal parts on probability, Murphy's Law, karma, truth, and universal properties. If I was better at science and math, I would be able to construct the equation more precisely so as to include those factors as well as the fact that it is the eve of the last day of classes and I'm fried. But as with most things, it is perhaps best to approach it as a Bad News/ Good News scenario:
BAD NEWS: Dad's On Call=Poop in Tub
GOOD NEWS: The Guilty Party was the most likely of suspects.
BAD NEWS: A Non-Guilty Party was also in the tub.
GOOD NEWS: I was not in the tub at the time.
BAD NEWS: I was the only one around to be entrusted to clean it up.
GOOD NEWS: In spite of Elsie's suspicions
BAD NEWS: The pug was not to be entrusted to clean it up.
GOOD NEWS: I did not have to shower myself in an alternate location after barely surviving the travails of toddler bath #1.
BAD NEWS: I did have to shower two toddlers a second time in an alternate location after barely surviving the travails of toddler bath #1.
GOOD NEWS: There is alcohol in the fridge.
BAD NEWS: There was some serious gagging and sterilizing involved non-drinking alcohol to earn said drinking alcohol.
GOOD NEWS: There are no accompanying pictures with this post.

A Salty Dog Tradition: The Easter Egg Hunt

We kicked off Easter Weekend with happy hour and a Friday night at Hilton Head. It was gorgeous weather and always a treat to wake up at the beach with the Salty Dog just a brief bike ride away.... and then candy... candy and a bloody mary for a post-breakfast treat... summer must be a few weeks away....

Easter Dinner
We managed to survive and maybe even thrive during our family-free Easter holiday with a visit from the Easter bunny complete with egg hunt, an Easter brunch at home, a long bike ride, good naps for all, and a fabulous Easter dinner party with our favorite Jewish family, the Belzers. There, Nathan cooked a feast as always, Allison poured vino as always, and Cecelia and Lillian entertained the youngsters as always (with an egg hunt, egg toss, egg carry, chalk fun, dress up games, and things we weren't even privy to!) The Martins were there as always, and we also had fun with the Wades, Kirks, and Carters. Yay! There were plenty of kids and friends for everyone! So while we had to get by with phone calls with family and missed them, sadly, we enjoyed friends who are like family. Cheers to that!
Elsie's Bugs

Hopefully, Elsie will have some of her daddy's science orientation. Already, she has demonstrated curiousity and enthusiasm. She can't get enough of entomology and delightfully can't imagine anyone not being interested in bugs. She loves slugs, ladybugs, caterpillars--anything creepy crawly--and has since she was little. When she was 18 months, we bought a vintage bug print from a reference book at an old print store in St. Augustine and had it framed for her room. Since then, her interest has continue to flame. It is one of the many things I love about this girl! When others say "ewwww" she tries to convince them to reconsider the wonder of bugs. And like her mother, she's pretty persuasive ;)
