A Fair to Remember

It's that time of year again--the weather is turning, the leaves are changing hue, it's time for the fall fair. Some people think of funnel cakes, cotton candy, and hay rides. David fondly reminisces about "cozy dogs" at the Selma fair. When we went to Atlanta to visit, I was glad that Elsie got to pet ponies, visit with old friends and family, and eat ice cream at my alma mater at the Pace Fair. Elsie, however, had her own list of favorite things:

1. Seeing Uncle Johnny's high school track record and trying to set my own record running around the indoor track--"Uncle Johnny is my inspiration. He's like the wind," says Elsie.

2. Being surrounded by a harem of greyhounds. Elsie saw a group of rescue greyhounds and sat down right in the center.

3. Moldy stroller straps--Really, we don't understand this so don't ask us to explain, but whenever we go somewhere, like the playground, Elsie immediately examines all of the stroller straps in peoples' strollers. At the fair, there were lots of straps, so she reports.

4. The generators--There were ponies to see, hotdogs to eat, and people to visit with and Elsie kept running for the generators running the blow-up, bounce-y things. Why, you ask? It must be because she is very advanced for her age, says her father.

Reading between the lines...

I know that a number of you reading this are good readers, fluent in literary criticism, deconstruction, reading between the lines... so you have probably noticed that we have been keeping things from you. Yes, in a few of these pictures, Elsie has not only a skinned-up nose but also a fine shiner. And our ever-moving Elsie earned those this weekend, in spite of, or because of her parents--on the concrete and in the tub respectively. We are fairly certain that K-Fed is going to be awarded custody any day now.
And to Chris and Jenn, Alice and Claire...

these Converse are just the thing Elsie needed to keep her in style--thanks guys! And to Ashley Pace, aka Gunner Fulmer, Elsie is already working on her bank shot in these so watch it...
Roll tide...

Elsie was pretty depressed over Bama's loss on Saturday--she's long given up on the Irish. But she was able to celebrate Jim and Suzanne--who gave her these PJs--when they gave her a new buddy: Little Duncan James Walker was born Tuesday, October 2nd! Baby Duncan this number goes out to you.
Did anyone eavesdrop on this conversation?

To keep the paparazzi at bay, Bryce remained incognito.

Bryce comes to town....

and brings Aunt Barbara and Uncle Mike. We were so happy to have them here to play!

Have you met Milton?

We can't sleep without this giraffe and certainly couldn't drink a bottle without him. We carry him around and we chew on his face. We don't mind that he is smelly. We show him to Oscar but wouldn't share him but giggle when Oscar wants to play with him. We go and look for him when we are away from him and we bring him back to play with him and throw him around. We love Milton!
