Happy Mother's Day!

wow, what a day. i went all out for mommy today. first, i let mommy (and daddy) sleep in until the blissful hour of 7:30. i actually awoke at my usual 6:23:16 but held tight for my mommy. i practiced my counting and delivery of my favorite new words--i sorry....i've found this phrase to be great. i can do very bad things, quickly utter these small two words and voila! i'm off the hook. this is going to be easier than i thought. once up this morning, i let mommy watch the wiggles--oh how she loves them! i often catch her humming the crackcocaine-like tunes the rest of the morning. next we had a special breakfast of daddy's famous waffles. loved them so much i kept a little of that yummy sticky syrup on the back of my right knee until 5pm. because of the tunder (thunder) we went to the mall and played at the softplay playground. there i let mommy watch me slide and climb. she had a lot of fun i think. after naptime the tunder was gone so we went for a walk. we went to my 2nd favorite park. the tree hanging park. there i hang from a low oak tree branch and giggle. then i chase oscar around trying to put him back on his leash....eash! eash!....for dinner i took mommy to her favorite sunday yummy spot. taste of india. i had not eaten there but daddy had told me how yummy it was. he was right. first i ate roughly 4 servings of papri chat and chutney...yummy yummy! next, i devoured saag paneer and tandori fish. i was a machine, making mommy very proud. no trouble with the spices for this little one. hopefully i won't have to wait until next mommy's day to have indian again. well its bathtime and then off to bed. ieeyou (i love you) mommy! and i'm certain daddy feels the same way.

Elsie-isms

Really it is more about the words than the pictures right now. She moves fast--she gets bumps and bruises--the pictures end up looking more artsy than accurate. But the words--I can capture a few of the words here.

There are favorites: Hi, OK, Oskey, Come ere, park, stroller, water, cup, No, Stop

There are multi-syllabic wonders: helicopter, aeroplane, alligator, avocado

There are names (and nicknames): Elaine (Nonie), Grammy (Gammie), Aunt Barbara (Bawbwa), Bryce (Byce), Kate (Kiki), Camille (Mille), Quesadilla (Dilla), David (D)--at full volume.

There are something like homophones: "Sickle" for bicycle or popsicle, "pinch" for shoe pinching or tooth pain, "all done" for anything she doesn't want to do anymore--eating, staying in her crib, dressing, talking

There are adorable speech impediments: TV (TB), DVD (DBD), covers (cubbers)

There are Nonie-isms, now Elsie-isms: OK, There it go, Whassup?

There are words of the day (an obsession repeated incessantly for brief periods of time until the next word of the day arises): clown, fireworks, Jesus, helmet, scary, Capers, the letter "s", the number 2, the color blue, the color yellow, the color green

There are sentences that ring of genius: I sorry, IEEYou (translated) I love you

'Ear Ye, 'Ear Ye! Make Way for Kernel Corny!
Close Talker: Elsie at the Park

Elsie is not cool. She is the opposite of cool. In fact, right now, she is truly uncool. As she approaches the playground or any children anywhere, she becomes positively giddy, calling out "hi kids! Hi kids!" from blocks away. And then it doesn't help her case when she gets there--she runs up to the kids, totally disregarding any sense of personal space, and begins waving frantically inches from their noses while yelling "Hi! Hi!" at full volume. The kids usually nervously say hello as they walk away or call for their mothers.

I remember when I was in high school when my mom accused me of trying to be too cool, too cynical. It was "trying"--I was the farthest thing from cool but tried to achieve whatever that meant at the time, trying not to care, trying not to get too excited, trying not to like much of anything that my mother wanted me to like, generally impersonating coolness whenever possible.

I know that one day Elsie will be cool--cooler than I ever was, maybe even a hipster like her dad, but now here she is and I feel torn. I know that she will never have any friends if she behaves in this way and I feel for her and the looks of disdain her delight engenders. I know that she will grow out of this eagerness--this genuine unguarded delight. But I wish Elsie could be uncool forever.

peanut, peanut butter--with dad

elsie and i shared one of my favorite snacks--pb and h. i remember enjoying ooey gooey peanut butter and honey treats with my dad. there's nothing better than a sticky sandwich and a cold glass of milk to wash it down. elsie was really interested in sharing--offering me a bite in between bites. she particularly enjoyed getting peanut butter on our faces--very funny. she makes a pretty good snack partner.

Suddenly Spring

April showers couldn't keep Elsie away from the Garden Expo at the Savannah Roundhouse. She is particularly partial to water features and is sure to have a green thumb like her Daddy.
Vintage Elsie

Elsie wore the chicken dress her mother once wore when Aunt Addie came to visit. She loved singing and playing with her sweet aunt.

Family Portraits

Thanks to Ann, Roy, and Meme, David and I had a little birthday getaway a few weeks back. We headed to St. Augustine for a few nights, and Elsie loved spending time with Granny, Pop Pop, and Meme!
