Birthday Breakfast and Birthday Watch

Elsie woke up and got to open one present in bed: Ladybug Land! We sent away for ladybugs to populate it and we'll keep you posted when they arrive. She then ate a birthday pancake before school and opened an adorable new watch from the Pace family. Then it was off to school where serendipitously it was "E" week and Elsie got to share E birthday cookies with the class at snack time.

Happy 4th Birthday Elsie!

In fact, I think that Kit's look might say it all here. Lots of times, there we are, watching to see what Elsie will do next. We are amazed by her--her energy, her creativity, her memory, her wit, her agility and of course, her determination, obstinance, and perseverance, for good or ill. Elsie is so full of joy, so happy, so enthusiastic, so full of life. In fact, it is really hard to even imagine life before her--it must have been so slow, so relaxing, and certainly, less vibrant just over four years ago. Little did we know the force we would soon be reckoning with--Our Elsie, and always, we are so glad she is ours! What a wonderful world it is with her in it!

Kit's Kicks

As we have been dressing Elsie in her school shoes and school clothes in the mornings, Kit has run to the closet to try on her big-girl fall shoes. How cute are these! How sassy! And how big is our girl!

Family Friends

There are certain friends that really are, as the saying goes, family you have chosen. David and I feel fortunate to have a number of friends that we can count on, that bail us out, that return favors, that we can lean on, that we have in the neighborhood, that we wish we could have nearby, that are as dear as family. To all of you out there, we are so grateful, so blessed, so thankful for you.... You know who you are! ;)

For us, the Martins are certainly one of those families. They are long term and last minute friends, special occasion and school night friends, happy news and bad news friends, serious and silly friends, all in all, best friends. Here we are celebrating Yates' 3rd birthday the other night, and they, in turn, will be among the last to leave Elsie's birthday on Saturday if I know how they roll.... and luckily for us, I think I do!

Labor Day 2010

Well, with David on call in Jesup, the girls couldn't just sit around waiting for fun to find us. We had to go find our own fun. First we road tripped to Charleston. Mom was thrilled to have survived the 2 1/2 hour drive to Isle of Palms and the Fulmer's lovely beach house. In fact, the drive wasn't bad at all thanks to naps, DVDs, and maybe some lollipops (don't tell D about those). Once there, we played with the Pace family on the beach, in the pool, and in the playroom! As always, the Fulmers and Paces are the most generous of hosts and we are anxious to return!

On the way home, we swung through 20 Belted Kingfisher to visit the Boukaters and Grammy and Poppa at the beach and then, after naps, headed back to Savannah to see Daddy on Sunday. Grammy and Poppa came over for a Labor Day dinner on Monday to complete the holiday weekend!

Of course, I was all cocky and arrogant about my single mom travels until someone at work told the story of her sister-in-law crossing the Atlantic with two kids on a plane and then traveling with them sans daddy or assistance in a train, on a bus, and on a cart?! once they arrived at their Asian location. I guess my Western woes aren't all that commendable! But it does suggest to me that some girl road trips might be in our future--maybe involving the Grease sound track and gummy bears?!

The First Day of School

Elsie was all ready to head back to the Montessori Academy today on her first day of school. It is hard to believe it has been three years--remember year one and year two. And here she is on the first day of her third year. While her birthday is after the September 1st cut off, she'll start the PreK curriculum with Ms. Carol, Ms. Tracy, and Ms. Candace anyway. She will work on her reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in the big classroom with the oldest kids in school. She'll be all set then when she starts PreK officially as the biggest little one at one of our neighborhood schools next fall!
